Success after IF

Skin Tags

I have never had a skin tag before but during this pregnancy I've developed one right in the crease of my neck and shoulder.  Because of where it is my shirt rubs it and over the last few days it has become painful.  I wore a necklace the other day and I think that may have irritated it and now the shirts continue to.  Anyway, is there anything I can do about this or do I have to go to a doctor to have it removed?  I'm tempted to just cut it off... This is normal during pregnancy, right?

  • DO NOT cut it off yourself.  My mom has them and on the occasion where she has "bumped" one off it bleeds forever and is really hard to make stop.  If it's bothering you, unfortunately I'd go see the doc about it.

  • It must be a pregnancy thing because I've had like 5-6 pop up since I've been pregnant.  They're not in an irritating spot right now so I'm going to let them go until after the baby.  However I did have one before that my bra strap rubbed on and I had that removed at the doctor's office.  It was a very quick, painless procedure.
  • Yes, they're very common, unfortunately.  I've gotten a bunch in my armpits and under my boobs.  They are gross and freak me out.  But you definitely shouldn't try to cut it off yourself.  I'd say either go to the doc now, or else wear a bandaid over it for a few days to reduce the irritation.  I'm waiting until after pg to get mine removed because more might pop up and I'd rather get it all over with at once.
  • You would have to go to a dermatologist to get it removed.

  • My primary care cuts them off for me!  Sometimes if the base is big enough I need stitches.  The crazy hormones def. bring them out.

The doc usually puts this black liquid on them to stop the bleeding b/c like pp says they bleed a lot!

  • they actually freeze them off! ? My mom had a bunch on her neck and its not that painful a proceedure...Id wait incase more appear!

  • Totally common in pregnancy due to hormone changes.

My OB will cut them off, as will my PCP.

  • I had them like crazy when I was PG. They didn't go away after either :( I went to my dermatologist and he removed them. It was quick.....do NOT do it yourself!
