Success after IF

ICSI successful, when to start process again

For those who have had success the first time and have some snow babies in the waiting, when did you start for the 2nd child? DH and I went through IVF with ICSI and were blessed with a beautiful baby in February. We have 9 frozen and we are trying to decide how long to wait. I was thinking of waiting until DS was 16-18 months. Any advice?

Re: ICSI successful, when to start process again

  • This is really a personal decision. We did our first FET when DD was 11 months. I don't want to wait too long because I'm 37 years old. That cycle ended with a blighted ovum and as soon as I get my period we will try another FET. (We have three frosties left.)
Sept. 2010: IVF #1= BFP; May 2012: FET #1= blighted ovum, D&C; FET #2= ?? Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Originally we were thinking when DS was 2, simply because we were OOP for FET.  I made the call to my RE to find out current costs when DS was 11 months though, just so we could make an informed decision and learned that we now have coverage, but only after a yearly OOP max is met, so we scrambled a bit to cycle this Sept., because we'd be thrilled if our kids are about 2 years apart, but also if sept. FET fails, we can cycle again within this calendar year and have it totally covered.

  • We had 3 embies to start with, transfered 2, and now have almost 1 yr old boys. We only have one embie left and have begun talking about when we'll attempt it. We're thinking possibly next spring or summer.

  • I'd love to start trying again pretty soon, but DD still BF a lot.  I plan to let her wean herself at her own pace, so probably a few more years.  In the meantime, we'll try on our own.
  • Definitely a personal choice.  I wanted DS and his sibling to be at least 2 years apart so we attempted FET in April when DS was 16 months.  It failed.  I did IVF immediately after which also failed.  RE found 2 polyps in my ute so after I have that removed next month, we will attempt FET again ASAP.  I don't want to delay it any longer due to age.
2nd ectopic resulted in loss of tube. HSG revealed remaining tube is "severely torqued".

    IVF #2: ER 06/20/12; ET 6/25/12: transferred 2 embies; Beta #1 on 7/5/12= BFN
    8/16: hysteroscopy for polyp removal
11/11: hysteroscopy #2 for yet another polyp removal
    FET#2: ET 12/15/12: transferred 3 embies; Beta #1 (9dp5dt): 12/24/12: 426; Beta #2 (11dp5dt): 845= BFP
