Another Furniture Question

I have been checking out Amazon and specifically looking at furniture with the cherry finish. My question is, if something is the same brand, but different set, will the colors match, or not so much? Since I can't see these in person, I can't tell.

For example, I really like the DaVinci Porter crib, and it has great reviews, but I would like the DaVinici Emily or Kalani dresser/hutch combo. Yet I'm afraid if I get them, they will not look well together.

I also really like the Stork Craft Valentia Crib, but it does not even have a matching dresser or changing table. I looked on another site and it shows the crib with Stork Craft Aspen pieces.

Furniture shopping is so stressful. I thought this part would be easy, but nothing has a matching WHOLE set that I love.

Thoughts?

Re: Another Furniture Question

  • You could contact the manufacturer and ask them. If they come from the same year and the same manufacturer they will probably be the same color but it doesn't hurt to contact them.

  • I think the when ordering it online, you'll have to take a leap of faith - even if you call the manufacturer, they may just BS you because they don't know/don't want to find out, or they will say "yes it matches" no matter what because they want to sell it.So I say, either order it and be okay with small differences in the cherry color, or be willing to return it and deal wiht that expense/hassle.

If matching is really important to you - order a whole set. It's hard - even "whites" don't match up, I found. There's like stark white, and cream white and antique white. I pulled together non matching pieces and no one ever knew/noticed. I am happy - I hope you find what you love!

  • Call the manufacturer and see if you can find out the lot number, whether was made from the same wood, year, batch of stain etc. For most people, it will look the same, not big deal, but if you're picky, then it can be very obvious if it's different. Cherry wood tends to get darker as it ages, so often times it's not uncommon for two pieces to look very different from each other, even if it's from the same manufacturer.

  • I did the EXACT same thing as you when I purchased DS's nursery furniture. I bought in Cherry color, and two different companies. They came slightly different shades, but you really can't tell unless you were me because I was so worried about it. :P

  • When I got my furniture (ordered in store from BRU) I was told that as long as I ordered the two pieces from the same brand they should match in color. I got a crib with an attatched changing table and there were no other furniture pieces in the collection, so I picked a different dresser from the same brand. The only thing that doesn't match on mine is the handles. It doesn't really bother me so I never changed it, but I could easily have gone to a hardware store and replaced all of the handles so they'd match.
