I was talking to a friend today about DD and how things were going and she noticed she was wearing CDs. She asked what I thought of them and where I got them and I told her I loved them and got some online and some at the green baby store in town. Her reaction; an eye roll along with "so you shop at the green baby store, CD, and breastfeed? So you're like one of those crunchy granola moms now?" I wasn't really sure how to take that tbh lol! I've gotten a lot of comments about CDing and breastfeeding (seperately mostly) but that was a FIRST!
Re: Any other "crunchy granola mom's" out there?
I work in the environmental field teaching the public about sustainable practices, I use vinegar and baking soda to clean everything, I "no poo" (no shampoo), and CD. I EP though, no nursing. Do I count as a crunchy granola mom?

This... although I think all three are beginning to become a little more mainstream...
I'm a crunchy granola mom as well
I CD, EBF, and plan on making LO his food (organic only) when it is time for solids.
Not sure why people eye roll and make a fuss about being sustainable and conscious of our impact. In the end, its cheaper too!
Good job crunchy granola mommies!
I do all those things... Except breastfeed (not by choice... and it kills me). I also made my own baby wipes and plan on making my own re-useable un-paper towels. I shop at the Green Baby (literally called Green Baby) store and use all natural cleaning products. My mom said that I am turning into a hippie. I said that I want to make sure my child is raised in a natural, eco-friendly home. If that means that I will eventually spend a few extra bucks to make her chicken strips hormone free then so be it! I can't wait till I can start making her baby food. Its going to be fun!
P.S. I heart my cloth diapers and can't imagine going back to disposables.
Same here. I guess I'm crunchy...

I'm debating this...
cloth diaper
Me too. I've been talking to my DH about it but still haven't decided.

That's why I found her comment so weird! If I hadn't been caught so off guard by her attitude about it I think I would have asked her for more criteria on what exactly makes one "crunchy" lol.
Because people are generally judgmental about things that are "different" or not what they would choose.
As for me, though I don't CD bc of expense of cleaning (we couldn't wash them ourselves bc our dry well overflows if we do too many washes/we're poor and can't afford diaper service), I consider myself crunchy granola-y. Well more like a crunchy-granola-hippie-punk-yoga-freak-nerd with an appreciation of the arts momma.
Anyone else find it sad that some people consider breastfeeding a crunchy, hippie thing to do instead of normal?
If those are the qualifications then yes I am one too! Just started CDing, but I EBF and love my local green general store.
Yeah what is it about cloth that is so addictive? I have wasted hours researching all the different types, brands, inserts, washing methods, etc. Not to mention shopping!
We used disposables for the first 2 weeks until her belly button stump fell off. Even though I had all my CDs prepped and ready to go, it was still a little intimidating to switch. But I'm so glad we did, I love it and DH does too. Now that your LO is bigger, you can skip the newborn diaper phase and go straight to one sizes.
. They are addicting once you start shopping though!

The Cloth Diaper board is awesome! I spend a lot of time over there now...

She explains the different types... it's 7 parts.

Totally. I exclusively breastfeed, cloth diaper, and make my own baby food, so I guess I'm considered "one of these"
Mostly I'm just trying to save money, but the other benefits are great bonuses!
This
Based on that, I'm crunchy. I don't think of myself that way though.
As for diapers, I use Thirsties. All different types - fab fitteds, duo diapers, AIO's.

Argh! Effing iPod!
Anywsy, yeah, YouTube. Sh?t Crunchy Moms Say and Sh?t Crunchy Dads say. Laughter will ensue.
Also, for those considering blw, it's fun. We did it with DS 1 and it worked really well. He's such a non-picky eater, luckily, and I'm hoping blw lead to that, at least a little.
Yay crunchy moms! I think I hit all the key signifiers: unmedicated childbirth, breastfeeding, baby wearing, baby led weaning, cloth diapering. It seems like a lot of those choices are becoming mainstream, most of my mom friends do some combination of those things, if not all of them.
Does anyone else limit their children's plastic toys? We don't buy plastic toys for our girls. They still have some, because people give them as gifts and we don't ban plastic, we just don't buy it ourselves.
