Is anyone here part of a Bunco group? I am, and I'm wondering if other groups have rules about people not showing up or finding a sub. I'm getting really frustrated with people not letting us know they can't make it until the last minute and then we're just left with an empty chair or two!
People should at least try to find their own sub, right? Or give us some warning that they won't come? I mean, I get that sometimes the kids are sick or their H has to work late or whatever, but we have a girl that does this month after month.
Also, are you a lucky Bunco player? I was when I started - I won the first three times that we played. Now, I haven't won in like a year!
<-------apparently needs to practice rolling dice! lol

It's a fun little game. It works best when you have 12 players, but it can be played with less. There are three tables of 4 people. Each table has a set of dice (die? idk). There is one main table with a bell. When they ring the bell, players start rolling the dice.
Players at all the tables take turns rolling the dice until a team at the main table gets a big Bunco or 25 points. There are 6 rounds and you get points for rolling the dice and coming up with the number that coincides with the current round (round 1, you want to roll 1s on each die, etc).
Big Bunco is when you get all 1's on a roll during the first round (or all 2's on the second round, etc). Little Bunco is when you roll all of the same number (but not the number that coincides with the round) - you get 5 points for that. Otherwise, you get one point for each die that has the number of the round on it. I can't remember if each table gets 2 or 3 die. If you roll and get the number of the round, you keep rolling (and earning points) until you don't get the right number or until the game is over.
That's a really long explanation, but it's a super easy game. No skill involved whatsoever. Each member puts $5 in the pot and at the end of the night, the players with most wins, most losses and most Big Buncos each win $20!
Our head table plays to 21. Each table has three die. We play with sixteen people and a buy in of $6. We take turns hosting, so whoever is hosting finds subs. If someone cancels at the last minute and the hostess can't find a sub we play without someone (bottom table has no teams it's each woman for herself in this case). We do have someone who routinely calls out at the last minute we haven't decided what if anything to do about it.

If we can't make it we have to find a sub, but we also have a list of people who want to sub, so it works. We have 12 in our group and our buy in is $20. If we have 11 people then one table just has to ghost play, so one person rolls for two people. We also do it so the first team to 21 ends the round, and we stick to one number for the night, so the hostess chooses the number. Any number but 1, because if you roll three 1's it is snake eyes and you lose all your points up to that point in that game. You have 3 die.
So the most losses gets their $20 back, most baby buncos get $40, most big buncos gets $60 and most wins gets $120.
lol nice
This is so interesting. I love hearing about the rulse of other groups. And Gwinny, I can't believe you play with ladies that have played for 15-20 years! I had no idea it had been around for so long! I just started hearing about it in the last couple of years. Maybe I just entered the appropriate place in my life to pay attention to it. lol.
And I want to play with frlcb's group! Dude, that's a huge pot!
Lexus and everyone else that said this, I thought it was supposed to be 21 but for some reason we always play to 25.
It's such a good time, I wish people would put a little more effort into getting replacements for themselves. I've never missed a Bunco night! It's my only girl time away from DD so I look forward to it every month.
We play to 21 and keep track of points. You get money for most Buncos, most wins, most loses, most points and lowest points. I frequently try to get the most loses, least points, but Bunco is so random, you have no control.
We punt when it comes to subs. Last week we had nine and played with three ghosts.
