Monitor question?

We haven't needed a monitor for Asher yet, because our house is so small that he's been in the room with us, but now that we're (finally) moving, I need to get one. What kind do you suggest?

Re: Monitor question?

  • Sounds nice. I want a video monitor, but J doesn't think we need one. I thought at this age, it'd be the best idea. Where did you get it?

  • We have Graco and it's worked great for us. I do wish we bought a video monitor because it took me forever to get comfortable with him sleeping in another room. And he was a light sleeper for awhile so it was almost impossible for me to check on him if I wanted to.

ETA - I wish even more that we had a video monitor now because we have just recently converted DS to his toddler bed. Every time I put him down for a nap I will hear him get up a few minutes later to read some books. Within 10 minutes he climbs back into bed to rest. What I would do to watch him!! I think he thinks he is being sneaky. :-)

  • We have this one. Not a video monitor, but does the job. I think for us, the video monitor was a little excessive.

  • We have 2.  We used the Sony BabyCall monitor until he was old enough to stand in the crib, and then I picked up a Summer Dual camera Day&Night Video Monitor for $40 at a resale.    I still use both a lot, but the video monitor gets more regular use now.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • I don't think a video monitor is necessary, but that's just me. We have a Sony Baby Call, but it can be really moody in regards to its range. We also have the Angel Care non-video one, and it's really good - I would recommend that instead.

  • We use a Sony Baby Call. I'm not a huge fan of the video monitors. So we never got one. We rarely use DD's monitor now.

  • We had a Motorola video monitor that we loved but it was an older model and would only use one camera.  We just bought a Summer one and really like it.  I love having a video monitor.

We have a Motorola video monitor that is worth it's weight in gold. You can pan around the room, and can talk to them from the parent unit... it's great.

I got a Summer Infant Day & Night from my shower even tough I registerd for one similar to yours. I wish I would have returned it because at exactly a year, it totally crapped out and it was a week after the warrenty expired.

  • We love our video monitor. It helps on days/nights when she doesn't want to sleep and I can see that she's fine and I don't have to go in her room to check which creates more fusiness when she does see me. If you don't want to spend the money get on CL and almost always you can find one on there for half the price.
