Rough night

Its not that anything in particular happened just that the baby seems to have excessive amounts of saliva which I know is normal but it seems to be that she is having a hard time figuring out how to swallow it, almost like post nasal drip. She seemed to be swallowing it hard and having a hard time getting it down (not all the time but maybe 3 times during the day). So when I put her to bed last night I was a nervous wreck, every little noise had me checking to make sure she wasn't choking on the saliva. She isn't sick, no fever, not acting any differently but damn it that is scary to see your infant choking on something you have no control over and there is really no way to stop it. The drool has been unbelievable. Its almost like she is foaming at the mouth because she is constantly blowing rasberries which is really cute but I just hope she gets used to the saliva fast!

Re: Rough night

  • I hear you on the fear that they are choking. DD's isn't due to excess saliva, but to silent reflux. She is constantly urping up spit-up, but instead of having the coordination to spit it out, she coughs and chokes, and then swallows it down. It's gotten better since we started putting cereal in her bottles, but she still has a few coughing episodes through the day and during the night. I've gotten used to it some, but it's still a little unnerving to hear her cough and worry she will choke.

  • We had a terrible night too. Typically she will either STTN or get up once.

    Last night, She went to bed at 10.  Woke up at: 1, 130, 2, 230, 3, 330, 4, 430, 630, 715, and 815.

Im hoping it was bc yest was our first full day home from vacation. I hope there's a reason. It was awful.

I have so much respect for the moms who have babies that aren't the easiest sleepers.

  • Me too. Our LO is an excellent sleeper so far but it wasn't her that was getting up. She slept through the little choking episodes yesterday which made me more nervous that I would find her unable to breathe laying on her back. I almost wanted to have her sleep in her bouncy seat. I don't want to start getting her into that seeing that she has been sleeping so well in her bassinett and we won't transition her into her crib until she is about 6 months old. I want her next to me where I can hear/see her easilly.
