XP:Imitrex for Migraines

I posted this on the 2nd tri board too. My Doc just gave me a script for imitrex for the frequent migraines I have been getting. The warning are kinda freaking me out. Has anyone else taken this for migraines? The OB wouldn't prescribe something that would hurt me or my baby right?

I was taken off immitrex when pregnant and breast feeding. My doc gave me Percocet for migraines during that time. I might get a 2nd opinion if I were you, just because the side effects alone with immitrex are not great when pregnant. Can you contact a neurologist or someone that specializes in pre-natal medicine?

I would personally avoid any Class C drugs in pregnancy (which Imitrex is) but I think when doctors prescribe things like that it is a risk-benefit thing so I am sure your doctor feels that the benefits of the medication for you greatly outweigh the risks it may have. You obviously sound like you do not feel comfortable taking it so I wouldn't and I would call my doctor to discuss other options and voice your concerns. S/he may be able to better explain why they prescribed it too you. I hope you feel better soon!

I wouldn't take it but I'm a little weird about medicine. I've found ways to manage my migraines without medication but I doubt they'd put you on something dangerous. I've never heard of Imitrex though.

I've been taking Imitrex for the last 3.5 years for migraines.  As soon as my Dr. found out that we were even trying to get pregnant she said to stop immediately.  Of course, this was when I was pregnant with DS that I was told this so I suppose it's possible things have changed.  I just decided to stop when I knew that I was pg again to be safe.
