Are these two things related at all? I know that an HPT is measuring hormones (HcG, right?) that are released after implantation. If implantation is within 7-10 days irrespective of LP, then does LP length matter in relation to when to test?
Practical application of this: I know several girls here are experience 10-11 day LPs. Mine is 16 days. Does this mean I have to wait nearly a week longer to get to the missed period mark? I'm not one to spend money on testing every day from day 10.
Also, I checked FF, but it just said, "We recommend waiting until the test date proposed by FertilityFriend.com (in the Pregnancy Monitor section below your chart). This date is based on your own cycle statistics and our research on pregnancy charts." Yeah, I don't pay for the VIP function, so FF ain't tellin' me nuthin'!
Enlighten me please....

BFP #1-7/22/12 EDD: 4/8/13 It's a Boy!! Born 3/30/13
BFP #2 2/3/14 EDD: 10/15/14 - My Chart
If you know how many DPO you are then the safest bet (according to what I remember from FF) is to wait until 18DPO to test. Most people can't wait that long (can't blame them) & test much earlier. If you have a long LP you may ovulate later than you think or have implantation later-- there is no real rule of thumb on that because it varies so much from situation to situation.
It really is a personal decision. If you think you can handle the potential BFN & waste of $ then test as soon as you want. You can always get some dollar store cheap tests or buy the super cheap wondfo's off of Amazon. That way you can piss away (lol originally no pun intended, but I am giggling now that I try to type it) as many cheap HPT as you want. Get your (+) BFP on a cheapie & then confirm with an FRER & digital.
I am not a pee-pusher. I advocate waiting as long as possible because it's more effective. However, if you feel the compulsion to test early, go with it & just remember you might see BFN for a while until either your period show or a (+).
Good luck!

this.
FF does tell you when to test even without VIP. The test day given by VIP IS either the day of your expected period or the day after, I can't remember which. Even on the basic version FF should indicate when you should expect your period (based on avg. LP) once O is detected. It is shown as a pink box on your calendar.
The reason FF tels you to wait that long is because waiting until you are past your normal LP length is a good indication of pregnancy (or at least a better chance). If they told everyone to test at say 12 DPO, a person with a short 10 day LP would only test when there is a good chance of pregnancy, while someone like you or I would be testing every month. FF is trying to minimize the number of wasted tests and negative tests.
