Trying to Get Pregnant

IF clarification question

Basically, my doctor (family doctor w/ obstetrics) thinks that an RE will be hesitant to treat me with clomid (or any other reproductive assistance) because although we've been actively trying for 14 months, I had a miscarriage in February and also because of my "youth". (I am 27, FWIW)

Which got me to thinking, do you think that the one year of trying before seeking an RE "reset", so to speak, when I had my miscarriage? I was diagnosed with PCOS 4 years ago, so I already have a known fertility issue. I always assumed it was when you TTC for a year without a successful pregnancy that it is advised to seek an RE? I feel like an RE would probably be ready to move forward with assistance with me at this point. WDYT?

I would go to an RE. If they get your info and feel that you need to wait, a good RE will tell you to wait a bit more. I highly doubt that would be the case.

I agree with this.  It can also take some time to get in to see an RE, so I would call and try to make an appointment now.

  • No, particularly not with a diagnosed IF issue.  At the very least, you can get all testing done (or repeated since its been 4 years) and make sure you have most things in order to try a few more cycles on your own.   I can't begin to explain why, but I've seen many ladies with a loss history that have a successful pregnancy from a medicated cycle, even if getting KU isn't the hard part for them.  I don't think an RE is going to turn you away.

  • I am also 27 and have my first RE appt. in another week or so.  I dotn think age matters.  We have also been TTC for 14 but no pregnancies at all.  I would go ahead with the RE

  • The m/c does not reset the timing, definitely go to the RE. Also, IF knows no age. Women of all ages suffer from IF.
