Trouble TTC

HSG finally scheduled! Now onto nervousness

So my HSG is finally scheduled for this Thursday. We already know we're dealing with super low motility but otherwise normal numbers on my husband's side due to scar tissue from childhood surgeries, and I only have one ovary and fallopian tube due to surgery when I was 12. Soooo basically it's either yay or nay on Thursday, and I'm getting nervous! If my tube is fine we can do IUI... if it's not I guess I'll be switching to the adoption board! Just wanted to vent some nerves on here....

Re: HSG finally scheduled! Now onto nervousness

  • Yay, it's scheduled! Everyone has different experiences but my cervix is high and to the right so my procedure wasn't the best. I would suggest taking Tyenol or Aleve before you go just in case you have some pain or discomfort. Other than that I'm sure all will go well and hopefully on to IUI! Good luck :)

  • Good luck to you! Would IVF also be an option?

  • Mine's actally being done under conscious sedation... I guess doing it that way is a new thing. I'm completely good with being knocked out though, haha.

Neither my husband nor I are big on the thought of IVF. I have Crohn's disease and we're not sure putting my body through all of the IVF meds is in our best interest medically speaking. It would technically be an option for us, but we just don't think going that route would be the best thing for me per se.

  • Yeah, I was offered it with or without. According to my doctor's office a lot of people go for it with, so I did. It's not full sedation; just like twilight I guess.

  • Good luck on Thursday! Mine's Friday so I feel ya on the nervousness! And sedation? Lucky! :)

  • I didn't know that they had conscious sedation for HSGs...my HSG procedure went well without much discomfort.  Knowing that you'll be sedated will hopefully alleviate your fears!  It's a great way to get some answers...

  • I just had my HSG yesterday, and I was really nervous for it, but it was way easier than expected.  I took the 800 mg of ibuprofen about 1 hour before, and aside from the speculum placement being uncomfortable (my tilted ute made her fiddle around awhile until she could get a good angle), and about 30 seconds of minor cramping during the dye injection, it was totally painless, just a little uncomfortable.

I hope yours will be just as easy!

    TTC #1 7/10, Me (31)- Dx DOR (AMH 0.6); DH (30)- normal
BFP on Cycle #8. Natural M/C at ~8 weeks
    IUI #1 and #2 (8/12, 9/12)- 50 mg Clomid + Ovidrel = BFNs
    IVF #1 (EPP) 13R/10M/9F, 5DT 1-4AA blast, beta #1-148, beta #2-322, 5 frosties!

  • So my HSG went fine! And the sedation didn't work at all until probably a half hour AFTER the test was done, despite getting as much as they could give me for my size.

Best part? My lonely ovary & fallopian tube are functioning normally!
