Clothes am I asking to much (rant)

So I had a yard sale this weekend and was trying to sell DS clothes that he grew out of way to fast he is now 3-6 almost in 6-9 mos clothing, and people were trying to talk me down from $.50 on his clothes, I am like really these clothes are in excellent condition name brand(carters, hurley, jordan, etc). Then I went to Once upon a child and they told me they had to many of sizes 0-3 mos so they are not taking any at this time, no where on the website or store does it say we only take sizes at certain times, so which it made me upset and I walked out, I was just about to spend some money there to because my son needs clothes now he is getting bigger.

Am I asking to much for his clothing, I have about 80pcs (pjs, onesies, shorts, shirts) in great condition(only worn once or twice, some even new) name brand $.50-$1.00 or all for $50.00. I wouldn't mind donating them but I need to get him some bigger sizes so anything that can help towards it would be nice. I know clothes are not cheap. I told my DH I wish someone would sell me clothes like this I would be in heaven.

I guess it wouldn't help that DS has been fussy all weekend, which probably made me more grumpy.

  • heck no. I would say under 1$ is fair at a yard sale. Btw, the same thing happened to me at Childrens orchard.

Have you tried posting on Craigslist? Check for consignment sales near you too. I sell through JBF, but they are not in all areas. I just found out about a few other yearly sales nearby too.

  • That is definitely reasonable! I would consider that a steal. It sucks that people are so cheap.. There is a facebook group for my town for selling things and they always do the same. :/

  • Keep checking different consignment shops. There are some near me that do pay very little for the clothes but also offer to give you a store credit for the items you are consigning. To me that is a better deal, you may be able to get more.

  • That's a great deal!

I second craigslist or a mommy swap board on facebook. I imagine you'll be able to get more interested buyers that way.

  • there isn't really a market for 2nd hand clothes (new or not).  most everyone gets a lot of clothes (hand-me-downs or new) when they have a baby.  so everyone with a baby has just as many clothes as you do.

most people who go to yard sales are looking to sell to consignment shops.

unless you run into people like my MIL who will go to yard sales and buy grocery bags full of clothes for $1.  then she'll give them to me.  then i give them to goodwill.
