Almost a month ago our son got a patch of what looks like dry skin/chafing on his belly. We had him in cloth diapers that didn't fit him too well and attributed it to that. We got rid if those diapers but the patch is not only still there, it's worse.
Our normal diaper cream is cjs butter, or coconut oil. We have tried everything we can think of - disposables, different diapers, desitin, breast milk, our normal diaper rash stuff - and it's still there. I try to give him diaper free time as much as possible, but at this point it's like a wound and I feel like he would need 3-4 days if diaper free time to help, which obvs isn't possible.
I have him diaper free now and as the constant moisture dries, it is turning into a scaly flaky white patch that is about the size of the palm of my hand.
Any ideas? I'm pretty much ready to cancel all my plans and leave him naked in the living room for the next week
Re: Chafing diaper rash that won't go away.
What about A&D or just vaseline. May have to take him to the pedi.
Oh yeah, meant to include that at our 4 mo appt our pedi did look at it, and just said to keep doing what we are doing and to increase diaper free time. Not helpful!
A&D is a good idea...I can def try that!
What would be the main indicators of yeast?
My daughter had a patch on her cheek that wouldn't clear up. I used Aveeno Baby Eczema lotion at everyone's suggestion with no luck. Applied baby Aquaphor twice a day for three days and it was gone.
She just started cutting teeth last week and got her first diaper rash. And when I say first, I mean first and hopefully worst she'll ever have to endure. Came out of nowhere and hurt her so bad I couldn't put her down. I figured since Aquaphor was magic on her face, it would be magic on her diaper rash. Nope. Just kept it from getting worse. Same with A&D and Desitin. Someone had given me Wedela Calendula diaper cream at my baby shower so I broke that out. 12 hours later, her diaper rash is gone.
If you haven't tried Aquaphor or Wedela, those would be my recommendations.
On a side note, you mentioned his previous cloth diapers weren't fitting well so you got rid of them. Did you switch diapers? Is he having a reaction to a new diaper or detergent? Lastly, is it getting warm where you are? Maybe its a heat rash?
Triple paste is the best diaper rash cream ever. I would just be careful of what you are putting on it if it is at the point of being an open wound.
ask for a prescription to VUSION
best stuff period.
