Ovulation and Cervical Mucus

So I've never had a brown discharge that came along with Ovulation? I am thinking this must be something new since i've stopped taking BC. Before I started BC I never experienced this... 

 is this considered spotting? or just old blood?

    Ditto to what Cram said.  Brown spotting is old blood.  It's not often a sign of ovulation though.  I'd pay more attention to your cervical fluid when trying to figure out when you might O, rather than spotting.  

    Spotting can be caused by a number of different things and it is usually very difficult to pinpoint the cause.
