Glucose Test Q

So I'm having the one hour test done tomorrow after work. On my instructions, it says to avoid any drinks or food that contain sugar the day of the test. This may sound dumb, but that does mean zero sugar for the day, right? The examples they give are mints, gum, and cough drops. I'm trying to figure out what to eat all day long that would have absolutely no sugar.

It says that toast is a good idea for breakfast. Guess I'll be eating a loaf of bread tomorrow, since I won't be getting to the lab until 3. :)

Any ideas?

Re: Glucose Test Q

  • My doctor said that I could have eggs. I had an early glucose test at 16 weeks, and I ate hard boiled eggs and toast. I have my second glucose test on Friday and I am eating the same thing this time around. Good luck!

  • Proteins are good.  I remember eating some grilled chicken before the test the last time I had to take it.

I would think you could have vegetables and meat. Maybe nuts to snack on.

  • I just had my 1 hour test yesterday afternoon.  It was really hard b/c I didn't have it until 3:30.  I had scrambled eggs for breakfast and took a container of cheese cubes and cut up veggies (peppers, carrots, cucumbers) for my lunch.

  • My doc told me not to eat a lot of  carbs, so I would not eat a lot of bread.  She said some was fine, but not a lot.  I would stick with meat, eggs, cheese, nuts.

  • My doctor didn't tell me anything.

with DS I ate a Taco Bell meal box right before my appt and this time around I had oatmeal and a glass of apple juice 3 hrs before.

  • I would definitely eat protein!  My instructions say to each well balanced meals and avoid overly sugary foods (ie, poptarts, cookies, etc)

    My instructions included:

Suggestions for breakfast include eggs, non sugary cereal, and a small amount of fruit or juice.

Suggestions for lunch include: sandwiches, veggies, lean protein like chicken.
