update on my baby with miningitis

we are still waiting on the cultures find out what kind it is. he is still on the vent; they tried to wean him yeaterday but his co2 levels went really high and his brain wasnt signaling to breath so its still breathing for him. they do have it down to 30% oxygen though and room air is 21%. he started a feeding tube yesterday and is up to an ounce an hour; they hope to have hom off iv fluids today. his chest xray showed mucus in his lungs now so theyve been sictioning it every couple of hours. he doeant really like that but you can tell he feels much better after. i asked about pneumonia and didnt really get a clear answer. they said it can be part that and part just him laying there and not able to cough and stuff but theyre taking care of it. the dr finally gave a time line; said its up to him when he comes off the vent thwyll give him a chance every day but theyre hoping 2-4 days.  we really appreciate the prayers. he sure is a fighter; theyve been pinning his arma down from trying to pull his tubes and bending his arm board.

Re: update on my baby with miningitis

  • Still praying for your little guy! Sounds like you're in great hands. FWIW, arm restraints are SOP with intubation. When I was intubated, my arms were restrained. The minute the nurse forgot to restrain me, I pulled my own vent tube out.

Hope everything goes well.  Hang in there and try not to get discouraged.  I cried everytime they had to raise DD's oxygen and thought she would never get down to 21%.  Hugs and prayers.

  • thank you again. he just keeps residence in that hospital; he was born early and spent 9 days in the nicu but that didnt seem as bad to me since i knew he'd be okay. he just need some time to finish developing. then he gets discharged and starts having breathing problems and started breathing treatments a month ago then had his follow up hearing test last week and failed his left ear and now this. im so ready for this medical stuff to be over with and just want my baby to be able to breath.

  • I'm so sorry! I know how tough it is to watch your baby go through all this and to feel like you can't do anything to help. Not holding Lily was the hardest part for me -- especially when I could tell she was upset. I found that reading and singing to her made me feel better. Be strong mama! Prayers for you both!
