Would you mind answering a dental question?
DS's dentist wants to put sealants on his molars. It seems like he does them on most/all kids as a preventative procedure. I can see the good in that, but DS hates things in the back of his mouth and I know that he would have to be sedated in some way. He hasn't had a cavity and I am very careful to brush, floss, floride rinse daily.
All that to ask, what is your general feeling/recommendation on sealants? Thanks.
Re: *quidditch*
I personally use sealants on almost every kid also. It is considered the standard of care in the patient population I serve (high risk children- typically have had multiple cavities, show up to appointments with plaque on their teeth, have a high sugar diet, etc.).
However, it does not sound like your DS is high risk. It is definitely up to you whether you want to do it or not. The thing I would keep in mind is that you may do a really good job taking care of his teeth now, but kids become adolescents and adolescent boys typically have HORRID oral hygiene. It is really at this group of children that sealants are targeted.
Good luck!
