Trying to Get Pregnant

Another HSG question (re: scheduling)

Did anyone not schedule their HSG during or right after your period?

Re: Another HSG question (re: scheduling)

  • I did only because I had a monitoring appointment that showed my follies were too small to ovulate. It was a rare exception.

  • My RE told me to schedule it between CD9-15

I was told I had to be done w/ bleeding, but it should be w/in the week after. I had mine done on CD8. I think it is because they don't want you in your 2WW.

    Same.

Also, my HSG was really easy. Just wanted to tell you that because I was so scared going into it and Googled a zillion horror stories. It wasn't painful at all and I could have done it on my lunch break and gone back to work. I got myself all worked up over nothing.

  • The radiology department person I talked to about scheduling was very adamant that it needed to be done after you had finished bleeding but before CD12.

  • I don't have personal experience, but a good friend of mine (who was really open with me about all of her TTC journey) had an HSG.  She was told that they schedule it during your period because at that time the cervix is most open, and therefore the proceedure is more comfortable for you than it might otherwise be.

Again, not sure to the truth to that, but rumor has it...

  • Okay thanks ladies.  My doc wanted me to call and schedule it when I start bleeding (but for a few days out) and she said it was because your cervix is somewhat open then and it's easier to perform the test.

But if I ovulated recently then my period should be due in about 2 weeks and that might not be enough time for my insides to have healed from the surgery.  I will have to see what she says/if it's okay to do it later in my cycle, esp if we TTA that month too.

I just had mine today - CD8.  My doc said that it had to be after your period but before you ovulate.

It didn't feel any different than getting a pap for me.  Actually a pap hurts more!

  • I scheduled mine the first day I started my period. They like it to be done right after your period but before you ovulate.
