It is a term taken from a child development book called "The Wonder Weeks." the author argues that children hit growth spurts at relatively predictable times in life and explains both what the child will probably act like (fussy, clingy, constant nursing, etc.) and WHY this is occurring at each time (the 12 week one is where babies are starting to learn smooth transitions). The book is a bit redundant but helps me understand why my sweet baby turns into a maniac sometimes.

The idea is that we all know about the predictable physical growth spurts, but there are also predictable neurological growth spurts. The book outlines what's going on mentally during each spurt. For example, at 12 weeks your baby is just learning to discern continuous movement, sounds, etc. rather than hearing/seeing/etc. as one big blur. So the book helps you understand what's going on in their little brain, what new behaviors and milestones you might expect as a result, and what activities you can do to encourage their mental development and adjustment at that time. I really love the book so far.

I too, did not know what a 'wonder week' was - and I found this article and it summed it up pretty well I think. Although- K is going to be 10 weeks on Thursday, and this is suppose to be a 'sunny' time -- she's been super fussy, has stopped sttn and is clingy. So, hopefully it will only last a few more days.

I have a 10 week old with the same issues. Super fussy, up all night and very clingy. Not sure what's going on.

It's possible it could be a growth spurt. I don't think we went through
the fussy/eating a ton/sleeping all the time at 6 weeks when it was
"suppose" to happen. So, maybe she's just a late bloomer like mine.
lol. Who knows. Babies are weird.
How the heck do you ladies find the time to read all of these development books? I would really like to know because I cannot find the time to do anything other then taking care of the baby, the house, the dogs!

This exactly. For that book, I read the chapter that applies to DD that week.

Could be- honestly I have never noticed growth spurts with LO before. Maybe I'm paying for it now! I hope we both get some relief soon!
