Trying to Get Pregnant

Hot Bikram Yoga

I am meant to start taking beginner's hot yoga this week. Now I am questioning if I should as I am TTC and this is supposed to be my 2WW. Any insight?

Re: Hot Bikram Yoga

  • All these questions today are reminding me of the day middle school the boys were separated from the girls and had "the talk".   The question and answer session was mostly like:

" What do I do when I get my period when swimming" or "What do I do when I get my period when riding a horse?"

  • I probably wouldn't start during the TWW just like I would stay away from a hot tub but I am learning I am on the conservative side when it comes to ttc.  Could you call and ask their opinion?  Is it safe if you were pregnant?

  • Bikram Yoga shouldn't cause any issues during the 2WW. However, since you have not been practicing this form of yoga if you get pregnant you should stop. The belief is that it is generally safe to do Bikram Yoga while pregnant if you were regularly practicing before you got pregnant (as long as you do the modified poses).

  • My RE said not to do it at all both because of the temp and because it is considered strenuous exercise. I hadn't been doing it long, though, so that's likely why she told me to stop.  If you've been participating in strenuous exercise for a long time, you'll probably be fine. I know my studio says it's fine to do modified poses while pregnant, but since I've been back (we've given up TTC...I'm just lurking) I haven't seen any pregnant women.

  • I've been struggling with this too.  My yoga studio isn't just bikram, but all classes are in a heated room.  I absolutely love it, but since we have started TTC I have been wondering if I should give up my membership.  I know hot yoga isn't recommended for pregnant women, but I keep finding mixed info on the TTC period.  Maybe if you've never done it before just stick to regular yoga.
