Trying to Get Pregnant

Newbie here: When would you BD?

I have been temping for the last six months.  On average, I have O'd on CD 17 or 18.  However I've had a couple wacky cycles, one where I O'd on CD 14 and one on CD 21 (this is a pattern for me- I'll have three or four "normal" cycles and then have a random long one like that).  I haven't used an OPK, as it doesn't sound like they are terribly reliable.

If you were me, what day would you start BD?  I don't want to start too early and deplete DH's "supply", and I don't want to start  too late and miss my window.  Thoughts?  This is our first cycle really trying so I'm not sure how to go about it.   I'm on CD2 now.

If the earliest you O'd is around CD14 and the latest is CD21 I would do EOD from CD10-CD25.

I have pretty good luck w/ OPKs, so I recommend them. If you get a +OPK I would ED until you don't get a +.

OK, maybe I will give the OPK a try.  Thanks for the response!

  • OPKs aren't reliable to say when you ovulated, but can be a great tool to tell you when you're about to ovulate!

I'd start using OPKs, and hump it out once you get a positive (or if you're like me, I get stark white, then a slow build up eventually leading to a positive, so I've got that "build up" warning time to know it's coming). - that way you can be pretty sure you're starting close to your O date.

Otherwise, I'd start around 2 days before earliest O and keep it going until you confirm O.

This.  And unless you have known sperm issues - I wouldn't worry about "depleting" your DH's supply.  Especially if you do EOD.  With no known issues, even ED shouldn't be an issue.

This is what I'd do in your situation.

  • I would have sex every other day from day 10 to Day 25. Unless your husband has abnormal sperm count, his supply should be fine. Good luck.

  • I would definitely recommend starting to use OPKs.

While there is no single fertility tool that can pinpoint ovulation, a combination of things (OPKs, temping, checking CM) can really help you to figure out the best times to BD, especially since you know your cycle pretty well already.

I would echo others that you should start BDing EOD (or every few days) starting around cycle day 10.  If you start to see a fade in pattern on your OPKs, you could make sure you are going EOD.  Then once you see your +OPK, go ED until you have your confirmed temp shift.

     Good Luck!
