Trying to Get Pregnant

OPK Questions

Hi ladies! I am going to start OPK tomorrow CD12 and I just wanted to get your guys opinions on a few things. Last month I only did one test every morning with my first urine of the day and never detected my ovulation, maybe I didn't ovulate at all! But, I have read that sometimes taking the test at 2pm helps detect ovulation....any thoughts on this?? Also, do any of you have a preference between the digital OPKs and the ones that just show lines?? Im kinda over spending a butt ton of money on the digitals ones if there really is no difference!

Last question!! Taking Mucinex to help with CM....thoughts???

  • I've discovered this cycle to just test sometime in the morning and sometime in the afternoon. I started my surge at 9pm this cycle and it lasted 12 hours. I wouldn't have known if I didn't test at night and in the morning. Once I got the positive, I tested in the morning again and at night until it was negative. So I'm done with the time schedule...

Buy some digis for a back up in case you are unsure on a strip... But the strips work great!

I would try just drinking lots of water to help with CM or green tea...

  • I use the CVS brand OPKs that come with 20 strips so I can pee on one whenever I feel like it ;)  They're just simple strips and cost around $20.  GL!

  • I also buy the cheaper wondfos off of amazon. They work well for me. I started with testing once a day around 3pm. So far I get positives for a couple days, so I have stuck to testing once a day.

  • It's actually been suggested to not test for ovulation with FMU because your LH is synthesized earlier in the day and doesn't actually show up in your urine until later (credit: POAS.com). That's why it's been suggested to wait until at least 10am, with early to mid-afternoon being considered the ideal time. However, every woman's body is different and so your LH surge may not show at the same time as another woman's. Additionally, length of LH surge can vary as well. The lady who runs POAS.com showed a surge that lasted less than 24 hours, so it's entirely possible that you could show a surge at 11am and later no surge at 7pm.

I've largely been told to use the cheapy strips for your every day testing and confirm with digitals once you get a positive strip test. I used the Answer strips to detect my first ovulation, and have Wondfos on hand for the next cycle if necessary.

  • I'm in the very same boat, I didn't get a smiley once and was super bummed. So now I have to just wait & see if AF arrives or not... Keep me posted. Everyone says wondos are the way to go... Contemplating on that one. Goodluck!!!
