Cloth Diapering

Two in CD?

We have another baby on the way, right now I have about 30-35 diapers, I was about twice a week.

How many more diapers will I need for the new baby?

I know it depends on how much I want to wash, and I would like to stay washing twice a week. Does that mean I'll need 20 more? or more than that?

Re: Two in CD?

  • If you're using OS AIOs (or pockets or whatever) then you do need a full additional stash for the baby. We have two in CDs but we used sized covers and prefolds. We didn't need to buy anything new until recently. We use the same prefolds (we have at least 3 dozen, maybe more) for both kids and they each had their own set of 5 covers. Recently the baby grew into the M sized covers and the toddler is still wearing that size. We got 3 more covers and 6 pockets (used from a friend) and now we're doing fine. We use the pockets in the diaper bag and it's nice because they're the same size for both kids. We use prefolds and covers at home and now have 8 covers in M and the same 3 dozen+ prefolds. There's a little less laundry leeway than there was with one kid but the toddler doesn't need to be changed as often anymore so it balances out.

That probably wasn't helpful at all... sorry

  • You'll need to wash more in the beginning. At 12-18 diapers a day for a newborn, that itself is an overly full load in 3.5 days.
  • Loading the player...
  • That is true.. More washing in the beginning.

Since I use all pockets, I guess that means I will need to buy way more than anticipated.

  • it seems best to just wash more often. I can't imagine letting the diapers pile up for 4 days and then have to do 4 loads of laundry! With all the rinse cycles it will take every hour out of the day! I only have 26 diapers for my twins and I do laundry every 1.5-2 days. And that's now with them each using about 6 diapers a day. When they were younger I had to wash pretty much every day. But we used Flip shells with disposable liners at night so we didn't have to worry about rinsing poopy diapers when we'd rather be sleeping! And your older child probably doesn't use too many now and might start using less and less soon with potty training, then you'll have wasted a lot of $$ when you don't need that many diapers.

    Thank you!

It looks like I'll be washing more often!
