humidifiers / purifieres

i wanted to know what the difference was between a humidifier and a  purifier?

also there is a warm mist humidifier and a cool mist humidifier, what is the difference in them.  I am not why we would need a warm mist or cold mist.

A humidifier makes the air moist and keeps the sinuses from drying up.  Its good for colds and the dry winter air.  A purifier supposedly cleans the air of allergens/dust/mold, etc.

Our pediatrician recommends the cool mist humidifier.  I want to say its for safety purposes, to prevent burns from steam (I could be wrong though).

Cool mist is recommended because warm mist breeds bacteria and mold.

this  cool mist is better...they say warm mist breaks up mucus and makes it easier to breath when your sick...but it could make you sicker sooooo i just go with the cool mist
