John Thomas (dirty)

My best friend named her son this and I just found out that it's British slang for ... the "boy" part. Do I tell her?

  • Eh, most people probably won't make the association. I didn't. Unless she lives in the UK, I don't think it's a big deal. I wouldn't tell her.

Does she live in the UK? I assume that she doesn't and if not, like PP said, its not a big deal at all and I wouldn't tell her.

  • Of course you don't tell her. And one day, if she figures it out, and she mentions it to you, you tell her not to worry about it!

  • Of course you don't tell her this! What is she going to do about it at this point?!

And unless she lives in the UK what does it matter?

And if she does live in the UK a) it didn't matter to her b) it's not as common a term as you think if she didn't realize it.

  • i think its funny and I would want to know.  it really doesn't matter unless the lives there so it't not a big deal.

  • I wouldn't bother telling her. As PP said, if she doens't live in the UK it won't matter as much. Honestly there are so many slang terms I have heard for that same part and those names are used. (Peter, Johnson, Willy...) I don't think it's a big deal.
  • I grew up with a boy with this name and it was never an issue. I never even knew it "meant" something else.

    I knew this term.

It happens to also be the name of the nice steakhouse in my hometown. I always thought it was a strange choice on their part, but I think your friend is ok!

  • I knew the reference, but I'm not sure I'd tell if it's already the child's name.  I'm not even sure I'd tell if it were a prospective name...she likes it for a reason...

  • Oh no I wouldn't tell her! (but I would think it was pretty funny if someone told me)

  • That's just as bad as naming a kid Richard, Peter or anything else along those lines. It's a name first, slang second.
