I would never understand picking Dr. brown's from the get go. Why deal with the PITA rpthat is all of those parts unless you absolutely have to?
they are awesome when necessary, but personally I would not go through the trouble until I had to.
Ditto. I loved Avent bottles they were easy to use, didn't leak for me and LO took to them easily as we were nursing and bottle feeding. I say buy just a bottle or two, in different brands but don't open them all up and sterilize them until you need to. That way you can return them if need be.

This... but in our case the Dr. Browns worked better with DS.... he just didn't like the avent ones at all. But he wasn't really taking bottles until 6 months, so it wasn't as frequently as at the beginning would have been. But I did buy a lot of them since I was too lazy to constantly wash the bottles.
I started out with the Dr. Brown's (DD had horrible reflux/allergies) but all the pieces got to be a total PITA. I switched to the Playtex Ventaire and Playex dropins and never looked back.
My sister uses only Avent bottles. She did say that if you get formula powder on the rim it may try to leak, but just take a rag once around and they work perfect and never leaked through both of her boys (4 years apart).
BFP 2/10/2012! Due Date: 10/15/2012! Baby Boy Born 10/11/12! (Not on purpose)
I would choose Avent. They are cheaper and have fewer pieces. We used them with DS with no problems.
I used Dr Browns with some babies when I worked in a daycare and they were a pain to clean and didn't really seem to work better than any of the other bottles.
I registered for and attemped to use the Dr. Browns and DS had trouble with the nipple, it was too big in his mouth and he wouldn't/couldn't take to them. I eventually went the Playtex Drop-ins. Less to clean and they had a better shaped nipple, he took to them great. I bf'd so we didn't use them often just when we were out or DH would feed him.
OMG I hated Advent bottles. They leaked really bad unless I had the colic ring in them. The colic bottles are way more expensive and you only get like one ring per set of bottles.
I did a poll on here and on FB asking mommies what their favorites were and DR. Browns came out on top by a lot! Everyone did say the cleaning is a PITA but that it was worth it.
We just bought Dr Browns

Avent...but that was DD's choice. It's really going to be up to your baby. I would pick one, buy a couple, and see if they work for your LO. If not, buy a couple of another brand. Rinse and repeat.

Yeah, leaking has been an issue with Avent, but the trick is not to overtighten. They leak if you tighten too much. But if you just turn until it's secure, they won't.
Try a few Avent and one Dr. Browns - all those Dr. Browns parts drove me batty after awhile. Washing bottles and finding parts for daycare sucked. I would guess that over half the babies I know don't have bottle issues and take more than one style with no problem (or confusion with breast feeding)
When my daughter couldn't nurse the doctors gave me Avent bottles and I pumped into them. She immediately took to them, so I never used anything else. They were wonderful though and I wouldn't want to. Use the Avent.
We used Born Free with our DS. My cousin used avent, I have a friend that used Dr. Brown's. We were all pretty happy with out bottle choices. Like the other ladies recommended, get one of each and see which one you like better. Keep all your receipts in case LO decides he hates whichever you chose. My impression is they're both fantastic bottles and you can't go wrong with either.
Re: Bottle question---for STM....Avent or Dr. Brown's?

I would only use Dr. Brown's as a last resort (i.e. if baby has a sensitive/gassy tummy or colic).
We are using Tommee Tippee and love them.

...baby #3 is here...
This, DS did great with TT so I plan to use them again
Same here... LOVE them!!
My advice: start with the cheapest bottles, then work your way up if your LO doesn't like them. Your LO will pick the bottle/nipple style they prefer.
We used playtex drop-ins with DD. She actually hated the Medela bottles we had.
In the 12 months we used them, not one single leak.
