2nd Trimester

Blood drawn every month? What?

So a friend of mine has to get her blood drawn every month and she is pregnant. Anyone else getting their blood drawn every time they see their doctor? I was thinking maybe she's just really close to being anemic or something like that, but I thought it was a little strange. I only have to give a urine sample every time I see mine....She and I don't have the same doctor though....

I have so far, but I think the draws at 12 and 16 weeks were both part of the NT screening... 7w they drew a lot more and ran full labs, I think.

  • Maybe that's what my friend is talking about. She's not that far along.

  • I have my blood drawn each time I go to an appt. But now that you ask, I am actually not sure what they are testing. At least in this case, no news is good news.

  • I've gotten mine drawn often, but it's to keep track of my kidney/liver functions due to complications. Without those complications, it would be done much less frequently.
  • I had the big blood draw at 12 weeks (found out at 8 weeks prego) and will have mine drawn frequently to monitor thyroid levels.

  • I don't have a thyroid so I am being monitored every 6 weeks.  But I've also had blood work done for rising betas (3x), then the first work up for my OB, blood work for the NT Scan, blood work for spina bifida, and the MaterniT21 test for Trisomy 21, 18 and 13.  I feel like a pin cushion.

  • I have blood drawn every visit to check my Lovenox (a blood thinner) levels and also to check my thyroid function.  I also had the basic ob panel done when I found out that I was pregnant, along with having my progesterone levels checked and later I had the trisomy screening blood work done.  The people in the lab know me by name.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • Tell her to ask her doctor. I mean i had a large amount taken at 12 weeks, then again at 16ish, whichi think is normal.

  • Mine is being drawn every 4 weeks, but that's to check thyroid levels.
