I am a petite girl whose never been overweight & always athletic. During this pregnancy I've been eating right, exercising, on the right weight gain path, & eat maybe a little sweet something once a week. So I've been doing everything right & somehow failed the 1 hr. glucose test!! Anything over 130 has to do the 3 hr test & I got 131!! I think they just want more money! I've heard some Drs. say anything over 140 does 3 hr test. Anybody else have this happen? Or their Dr. limit it at140? I'm just worried & shocked! Any help appreciated. Thanks!
Aww, sorry. I think it depends on your doctor.... My doc said 139 was the cut off for me, and I actually scored 141! He didn't order me to take the 3hour test... and evaluated that I'm not diabetic. When I was waiting at the lab for my 1 hour test, I encountered another expectant mom who was baffled as to why she had to do a 3 hour test as well. I guess it depends on your doctor and your conditions..
I am overweight and not athletic. I'm currently half way through a bag of twizzlers. My doc said 130. I got a 119.
Your size and athletic ability aren't determining factors on if you will or will not get it. GD is a hormonal thing, meaning your hormones can make you less responsive to insulin.
Chances are if you were that close, you'll pass the 3 hour. My doc recommended fasting 8-10 hours prior to the test, which is what I did.
I wish everyone could get it through their heads that skinny, athletic girls get GD, too. I've always been a size 0-2 and had GD with my first two.
My OB's limit wsa 130, as well. With my first pregnancy I failed with a 135, and my aunt who took it the same week failed with a 160 something. She passed her 3 hour, I failed mine and had GD. A fail is a fail and how badly you failed (or not) really not much of an indicator of how you'll do on the 3 hour. Good luck.

I failed the first test with a 140 (my doctor's cut-off was 135; this seems arbitrary by office). On the three hour, I passed the fasting, first and third blood draws with flying colors, and missed the mark on the second blood draw by 5 points again. So now they have me monitoring my levels 4x a day for four days. I haven't had a level over 94 in two days. They also implanted a chip in my side that takes readings every 5 minutes, and they'll take it out on Friday. Hopefully, this will be the end of it, but, if worse comes to worse, the finger pricks and testing strips aren't that bad. Good luck!
