1st Trimester

Intro/Exhaustion and Working

Hi Everyone! This is my first post. I am about 11 weeks along and due on January 14th. This is my first pregnancy and I am VERY excited! I have read some of the other posts about exhaustion and I'm glad I am not alone! How does everyone deal with working full time and being sooo tired and/or nauseas??

Welcome and congrats! I am also a first time mom! Working while dealing with this exhaustion is pretty brutal. Luckily my nausea has calmed down but when I was dealing with that at work I found eating saltines and drinking ginger ale helped me the most. I try my best to get LOTS of sleep at night but lately I have to get up 2-3 times a night to pee so that really cuts into quality rest time. Everyone I've talked to tells me that it gets better in 2nd tri so FX for that!

  • right there with you. I get tired at random times, then m/s at other times and its not so great dealing with those things when working full time. I drink plenty of water as a general rule. to help my nausia I'll get a sprite and sip that thru the day and it helps. the exhaustion unfortunately only thing I can think of is getting up frequently if you have a desk job. keeps you from falling asleep at yur desk. and im not drinking caffiene anymore so if i need a serious boost I'll get a candy bar or something for the sugar rush. Try and get thru it, I know you can! Everyone says after the first trimester it'll all get better! So thats my goal is to just get thru this trimester :)

  • I just posted something very similar to this on the February 2013 board this morning. This is my first pregnancy and I also work full time. The main issue I am having is morning sickness! It is so hard to deal with it especially when nobody here really knows so I feel like I'm on my own. It's even hard for me to choke down water which I normally drink tons of. I usually have to lightly flavor it or get carbonated.

Caffine & powering through. You have to do what you have to do.

  • Its tough - Weeks 5-7 were brutal with m/s and exhaustion! Luckily I can work from home if I need and my supervisor was awesome! I am back at work now but struggling to make it through the day, no caffeine for me! I take naps during my lunch break Wink

  • I almost fell asleep today at work while students were presenting their speeches for a major grade! I had to stand up and walk around a bit. I also teach theatre, so when we get back for the regular school year my work hours will be from 7:30 - 6pm! I don't know how I will manage, but I have to, so I will!
  • It's really hard to work with m/s and fatigue... I can't concentrate since I feel so bad.  Also, getting sick in a busy public women's restroom is NOT fun!  I'm craving privacy and alone time, but I get none of that at work.  I wish I had some advice to share about what's helped me deal with the nausea, but I don't.  Every day is different!
