Everett is my MIL's maiden name and my DH's middle name. We thought it flowed nicely with Elizabeth and that the alliteration would make for a very pretty monogram!
We chose a name that has special meaning for us (biblical) but we might do something different with our other kids. I'm still hoping on using my maiden name as a MN. It sounded absolutely terrible with Rhett.
We wanted a family name but they didn't sound right with his fn (either gave bad initials or ran together so the flow was bad) so we chose an Irish surname to honor my mother's side (her maiden name is a Mc name). The flow is great and even though it's subtle, to us it honors family.

There's no tradition of passing names down in DH's family and only men pass names in my family, so we're just picking a mn that we like and sounds nice.
We knew we wanted the middle name to start w/M, as DH's mn and both my original mn and my maiden name (now my mn) start w/M. From there, we were looking for something that would flow, was not super-common, and had meaning/history behind it. We had chosen Maris, but then learned we both had great aunts who went by Mariska and that was it.
"Today I will be happier than a bird with a french fry."
We used family names for both daughters. DD1 has my maiden name for her middle name. We planned on using MIL's maiden name, Taylor, for our second child's middle name until we settled on Elizabeth for a first name. We couldn't name the baby Elizabeth Taylor Lastname, so she ended up with my grandmother's middle, Margaret, as her middle. Next baby will get Taylor in the middle.
We gave our first son a family name. It's the same as his father's, grandfather's and great-grandfather's. Our second son has a name we just liked that flowed well with his first and last name.
We don't know the sex yet but for a boy mn will be Thomas after my grandfather and for a girl mn will be Elizabeth (mine, my mother's, my grandmother's, and my great-grandmother's middle name!).
A name with meaning to us, though all of our other boy names are family names that we also love. Girl names are mostly just have meaning to us, they're book characters who are dearer to me than most of my actual family.
I guess family names, but I'm not committed to using family names with all my kids.
#1's middle name was just a name we thought was cute and went well with her first name; it also happened to be the name of my grandma's great-aunt, but I've never met her or anything.
#2's MN is my favorite grandma's name. I also just really like the name.
Our girl mn name for future baby #3 is a traditional Gaelic name- DH's family is Irish so it will sort of be an homage to them, but also, we just like the name. Our boy mn for #3 isn't decided but will either be an Irish name or just a quirky name we like.
We chose Elizabeth, after my grandmother's first name, it is an added bonus that it's also my middle name. Plus, we really liked the way it flows with her first name.
June was my paternal grandmother's name who passed away last June, it's also the month we got married in, so we liked that connection as well. And we loved that it's an older style name that no one will ever mispronounce or misspell.
What really sealed the deal was how well it flows with Emma, we wanted a shorter, concise, classic name and it's perfect. People use her first and middle together all the time, I just love it.
Re: Clicky- what kind of middle name did you choose?

All 3 of my kids have middle names after family members.
my mom, dad, and an uncle who died young.
Our sons mn is Lawrence, named after my uncle who died when I was 9. But I'm also Jewish so naming after deceased relatives is a religious tradition.
I guess family names, but I'm not committed to using family names with all my kids.

DS1's middle name is my father's FN.
DS2's middle name is my husband and FIL's FN.
Any future children we may have will most likely have family middle names as well.
