Waking up starving in middle of the night

For the last week or so, I find myself starving in the middle of the night, even though I am eating a completely filling dinner. I usually grab a light granola bar and go back to bed, but I'm starving again by the morning. Anyone else experience this? How do you deal with it? Sometimes it's hard to go back to sleep if my stomach is growling!

  • OH yes!!! Almost every day. Try eating something like oatmeal that is a little thicker and more filling. Also, you can put something next to your bed to munch on when you get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night/wake up for no apparent reason. I usually put a banana there or something.

  • Me! We had a late dinner last night and not even 2 hours later, I was hungry! I even ate a little something right before bed and here I am starving as soon as I wake up! I try to keep it healthy when I snack like fruit or yogurt and sometimes a little bit of cheese and crackers, but I'm finding that this stuff is totally not keeping me full! We don't really keep junk food in the house anyways, so I just eat whatever whenever I'm hungry. Obviously if my stomach is growling, I need to eat!

  • It's been happening to me a lot lately. I cant go back to sleep it I dont get something to eat, so I usually grab some fruit.

  • I am hungry every hour of the day, and I graze throughout it. At night I definitely wake up to eat! It's normal.

  • It happened to me at like 3 am in the morning. My stomach was growling so bad I couldn't fall back to sleep. I got up and had a glass of warm milk and for the most part it worked. So you are not alone :-)
  • i have been going through the same thing. i make sure i have healthy treats handy (fruit, almonds, cereal bar, yogurt)... i learned this lesson after i killed a chocolate and almond bar.

  • My brilliant hubby came up with keeping a small dish of almonds next to me at night.  That way I can munch on some along with my water.  Had been getting up for an apple or string cheese a few weeks ago.  Nice thing about the almonds, I don't have to brush the teeth right away - can have a handful, and go back to sleep.  What I do not eat in those wee hours of the morning (pun intended), I munch upon before getting up for the day.  Has worked beautifully for the past week.
