I was put on moderate bed rest 4 weeks ago, and since then my older male dog, a Corgi, has acted more needy and jealous. If he was laying near me he HAD to be touched.
These past few days he has been more alert and content just laying next to me without a need to be petted.
Now last night and tonight he has been going to our bedroom and laying on our bed WAY before DH and I go to bed. Like tonight, he went in at 8:30pm and hasn't come out since (it's 11:30 now) even when I go in to check on him he doesn't get up and follow me out like he normally would.
Meanwhile - my other dog is completely clueless to what's going on!
Think he senses a big change is happening really really soon?

Re: Change in dog's behavior right before labor?
Absolutely! My dog did this with my firstborn & is worse now ! I always remind myself that her instincts & intent is good but she just stares at me!!! If I am not touching her when we lay on the couch & I let her up, then she lays on me as much as she can. We don't let her sleep in our room or bed so when bed time nears, she hides upstairs in the room above ours in the corner, literally hiding, trying to be near me even if it's a floor above. It's cute in words but when I finally get my toddler down the last think I need is my dog nagging me for my attention! Ha!
You gotta love em!
Warning though,,,,, this was a HUGE guilt trip for me once my first was born. I could no longer be the same dog mom I was but now we are all good. They play a lot & my dogis so lucky to have a brother so to speak. She heards him & I love it.
My dog is more emotional & desperate than the girls on the bachelor. It's ridic !!!

P.s. on another note... The day I went into labor with my first, my dog was not doing anything weird. I took her with me to a friends house & she just wanted to swim & play. It was really a perfect last only child day but she wasn't as weird as she was & is now so I feel like this waiting gets to them too, but the true labor day is less emo. I am sure they'd all be crazy weird though if we delivered at home!!! Ha!

Hmm... My female rat terrier has been the little mommy all along, but now she's even clingier. I have been in early abor for the last 3 days and she won't even let me use the bathroom by myself.
My male papillon doesn't seem to sense any difference. We taught them the word "baby" and her name and he runs to my belly when he hears baby and runs to the nursery door (only allowed in w/DH or me) when we say her name. But I really think my female's understanding of what's happening is on an intuitive level, and it's only on a logical level w/my male.
Hahaha, I can just picture our dog being this way too. She follows me around the house as it is...can't wait to see her interact with our LO.
