Cloth Diapering

Cloth Diapers causing 2 week old to sweat?

We've had a recent heat wave here (though we have AC in the house) and it seems to my DH and I that the cloth diapers are over soaked when we change her - right up around her belly.  It doesn't seem like urine, it seems like sweat.

We have kissaluvs, kissaluv organic hemp with soakers and thirsties.  The original kissaluvs seem the lightest.  We also have thirsties covers and wool covers.  I know the wool is supposed to breathe, but it doesn't seem to really make much of a difference.

She actually has what looks like a bit of heat rash between her poor little bum cheeks.

I actually put disposables on her for the day yesterday as we were out and about and I didn't like the thought of her sweating so much in her diaper.

Any experience/thoughts on how to deal with this?  Just change more often?  Don't worry about it?  Different kind of diaper?  I don't mind the diaper laundry and tend to do it daily.  I have 24 diapers total, which is plenty, and they're all fitteds, which I prefer to stick with.

Are there "lighter" wool covers available?  The ones I have are from wooly bottoms.

 TIA!

  • Cloth diapers breathe more than sposies. Even just with PUL covers.

Change about  every 2 hours by day and it's fine.

Do you just not worry about the sweat?

I know they breathe more, and would prefer the natural fabrics against her skin, but it seems uncomfortable to sit any time in a sweat-soaked diaper.  I don't think disposables are the answer, but they also don't seem to leave her with clammy, sweaty skin.

they're not leaving her with sweaty skin because they're absorbing all the sweat into the crystals that's why if you've ever touched a disposable when it had been wet it doesn't feel wet.

  • If you're concerned about it, you could give her diaperless time at home.  Just stick a towel under her.  It's technically good for clearing/preventing rashes too.

If you're concerned about the moisture on her skin, try some fleece liners.  It will wick the moisture away from her skin.

  • Ditto using fleece liners to help baby feel dry and wick the moisture away as well as some diaper free time.  When my LO was 2 weeks old we couldn't always go 2 hours between changes since we were in prefolds he usually didnt tolerate a wet diaper for long so we just got in the habit of changing whenever he went. Sometimes that was every hour. He never had any rash issues.

  • They're actually better during heat waves than sposies.  DD sweated a lot as a newborn (she was born in May).  I was always worried I was overdressing her, but she was just a very sweaty baby!  She grew out of it in a couple of months.
