I have not yet, but I have a feeling I'm going to need one. I had a cone biopsy (step beyond a leep procedure to eliminate cancerous cells) a few years ago, so they aren't sure how strong my cervix is. They'll just check the length of my cevix to make sure it isn't getting shorter (weaker) as the baby grows. I have an appt. tomorrow so I'm sure I'll find out more.
I have one done every two weeks. At 20 weeks they found that my cervix was dilated and was starting to open at the top. I only had .5 cm left before I was completly efaced. They put in a cerclage to keep it shut and now I have the ultrasounds to make sure it is still shut and not funneling anymore.
I had one done at 12 weeks and am having another one done next week (20 weeks). Same reason as above. Making sure my cervix is strong enough to hold the baby as he/she grows. If not I will need to have a cercloge (I spelled that totally wrong!). Basically stitches in my cervix to hold it closed untill the baby is full term.
I had one due to off and on bleeding. They had done a general cervic exam and u/s to check the placenta, the baby, and ovaries but found nothing. So I think the cervical u/s was to make sure that was fine.
Had one today because I was having alot of pressure and the doc was thinking I could have developed an incompetent cervix but it measured perfect at 3.5

Same here. It is just an internal ultrasound, not really a big deal hopefully.
Thanks everyone. I'm not understanding the reason I'm getting one. I went in to see the dr because I feel like I have symptoms of uterine prolapse and he said everything looks fine but than orders this. I have the anatomy u/s in a few weeks so it concerning me. I'm transferring drs because I do not like that dr and I don't want any chance of him delivering my child. About 12 years ago I went to him for severe pelvic pain and he dismissed my issue saying it was cramps and I'm just not good at handling pain. I believed him for a while. Well, 5 laparscopic procedures later to remove endometriosis and scar tissue and almost a hysterectomy before kids.....I'd say he's a bit wrong. Too bad he merged with the only group of drs around me. Now I'm going to drive 2 hours to someone else. I'm having a c-section anyways. Hopefully labor doesn't come early.
I know I saw the tech do it when I had my a/s. Other than that I don't have a reason to have one done. I had a LEEP done years (almost 10 I think) ago and even when I was pg with my first the OB didn't feel the need to do an u/s specifically for cervical length.
I had funneling and shortening of the cervix while pregnant. Caused me to start pre term labor. I was put on bed rest for a month and things calmed down, and i carried to full term.
I've had numerous transvaginal u/s to measure cervical length, mainly because of all these BH contractions I'm having but they also monitor your cervix more closely in a multiple gestation PG.
He probably wants the u/s check of your cervix to ensure what you're experiencing isn't affecting your cervix at all. They can only tell so much about your cervix w/ a manual examination. The u/s will give you a much more accurate picture of the exact length, if there's any funneling at the top, etc. I, personally, would take him up on it, for peace of mind if nothing else. It's not going to hurt anything. GL!
