2nd Trimester

Headaches and sinus pressure

Hey everoyne!  i'm 14.5 weeks pregnant with my second child.  my husband and i are super excited (being that its his first child and my other child was born 10 years ago).  one thing i've noticed different between this pregnancy and my last is the extreme sinus pressure and headaches that nothing seems to help.  I've also noticed my vision has declined alot in the past few weeks.   anyone else having this issue?

Re: Headaches and sinus pressure

  • My sinuses have been a MESS this pregnancy!  Definitely use a humidifier, and a netti pot/sinus rinse a few times a week.  If it gets really bad, my OB said it's ok to take Sudafed (psudephedrine, not phenylephrine) and Claritin.

  • I have very extreme sinus issues

I take Allegra, sudafed in Am, and benedryl at night (as needed). I also use a nasal wash a few days a week but due to the structural problems in my sinuses I have to be careful- the water can go into my ear canal (SO uncomfortable!).

I was getting the blurry vision too. Look into something called a contact headache. In my case the inflamed tissue was hitting a nerve and causing a sort of sciatica in my head/face.

    My ENT is my hero!

  • Have you considered/tried a netty kettle (think that's the name of it, sorry if I am spelling it wrong) for the sinus pressure which will also help with there headaches. You can get them in any walgreens, brooks, cvs, rite aid etc type store.

  • I'm 15 wks pregnant and I've had the WORST issues with my sinuses. I've just been putting ice packs on my face (sounds weird I know) but I find that helps, I'll place them on when I go to bed or if I'm laying on the couch watching TV
  • with my first child, i noticed i became more far sighted than normal, but i could still go without my glasses. this one has definitely made me wear my glasses full time.  i'm positive that my RX has changed, and will change more, but i'll wait until after the baby's born to redo my RX

As for the sinus stuff-  I'm a bit afraid and paranoid about taking anything.   I'll definitely try the breathe right strips, as i have them at home.
