TTC after 35

Unofficially Unexplained

I met with the RE today, and (pending his review of the tests from my ob/gyn) there doesn't seem to be a reason that I haven't gotten pregnant in 18 months.  So, we are starting from scratch with Clomid (and no IUI) when I start my next cycle.  I get the rationale of having more targets to hit, but I am a little skeptical about my chances with timed intercourse when all four of my IUIs were unsuccessful.  We'll see what happens...

The good news:  my husband saw the male infertility specialist in the same practice who seems to have "cured" my husband's MFI.  His numbers are great.  With his first sample, he had low motility and morphology, and now everything is in the normal range.  I told the doctor that I saw that hope he would have as good of results with me.

Re: Unofficially Unexplained

  • Focusing on the good news... DH has been "cured" maybe that's the extra bit of help you needed.

Unexplained sucks though.  It's all guess work from there.

Do the marathon BD and maybe things will work out.

    Good Luck

Yay on the good news.  I'm glad that has been resolved.  Maybe that's just the bump you needed!

  • Unexplained has to be frustrating.  Hopefully the improvments on your husband's end are what you needed. Good Luck as you move forward.

  • Yeah, that is extremely frustrating! My OB/GYN said that an off-label use of Clomid has shown a 7% increase in pregnancy for women with unexplained infertility, so I'm guessing that is why they're putting you on it.

I was going to suggest, given your DH's improved SA, that maybe a marathon BD cycle was in order? LOL

Seriously, though-- if DH's sperm quality has improved so dramatically in the past few months, maybe the "clock" can restart and you'll get your BFP w/in a few months from the change?

    FX for you!

  • Well it sounds like you have at some further progress. From my own personal experience, I've gotten pregnant from TI and not from IUI, so you really never know, I'm not convinced IUI is always the best, I've read that there are just some things that IUI can't replicate so don't count TI out just yet!

  • I'm glad your H's numbers were improved - just a friendly reminder that his numbers can and will continue to vary, though.

And, I'm glad you're with an RE now. Even though it feels like you're taking a step back with TI, I think it's a step forward to be under an RE's care. good luck.
