2nd Trimester

Breathing

I have been having problems getting a deep breath, and it's worse at night.  My doctor says this is normal, but I'm only 21 weeks I thought this wasn't supposed to happen until later on. Anyone else have problems?  How do you sleep at night to stay comfy and breathe easier?

Re: Breathing

  • this started happening to me  a few weeks ago. Im almost 22 weeks so this is normal... my side tends to be the most comfy. I prop a smal pillow under my belly to take the pressure off. Also if you are eating close to bedtime try to avoid that. It adds more crowding to your insides, and makes it more difficult. hope this helps!

  • I had that problem around 17 weeks, but it seems to come and go.  It was bad for a few days and then things seemed to readjust and I feel a lot better.  Hopefully, it will get better soon for you, too.

  • I'm technically at the beginning of the 3rd tri but this just started for me this past week - hoping I get used to it and it's not as noticable.

  • I had this for the first time a few weeks ago. It lasted for about a week and a half and has since subsided. I read that it is normal because our lungs are getting more compressed. I slept with my upper body propped up with quite a few pillows and it seemed to help.

  • girl, that baby is about pound right now. a pound doesn't seem like a lot, but it is when it's weighing down on your organs and other things (along with amniotic fluid, placenta, etc.) there's a lot going on in there, not to mention a mixture of hormones going crazy. i haven't been able to climb up my stairs without catching my breath in months!

For me it feels like my LO is trying to scooch to one side and pushes up on my lower ribs. What I do is raise my arms above my head and take as deep a breath as I can for as long as I need to and it 'seems' to fix it. But my OB has told me it's only going to be getting worse (This Friday I'll be in the 3rd tri) so I'm just trying to live with it. However if it's causing a panic attack talk to your Dr. about it, never forget that you have them as a resource.

Also try propping yourself up with another pillow under your head along with the one supporting your belly. I've heard it works, I just haven't been able to feel comfortable doing it myself.
