Hi everyone, I was hoping someone would have some advice for us. DD has a milk protein intolerance so we don't give her any kind of milk or milk products. She has been on soy milk and likes it, but has started getting diarreha from it. I know the soy is what is causing it because we didn't give her any over the weekend and it cleared up. She went back to daycare yesterday and was served soy milk and the diarreha came back. She doesn't like the taste of coconut milk and she is allergic to almond milk. I put in a call to her pedi to get a note for daycare because they say that they have to keep giving her milk - it is a government rule for the fda or something. If they get a doctors note then they will stop giving it to her. Rediculous. Anyway, what are my options as far as getting some kind of milk/calcium into DD? Goat's milk has the same effect on her as WCM, so we can't give her that either. We try to eat a lot of broccoli but it gets old after awhile. TIA
How long has she been on soy milk? Is this a new thing or been happening awhile? I know that kids can get diarrhea from starting soy or regular milk until they get used to the sugars in the milk.
How much is she drinking too?
you could try calcium fortified OJ. and, full fat in all of her food to make up the difference (I do that anyway with soy milk b/c it has a little less fat than whole milk).
We started supplementing with soy formula when she was 9ish months old. We switched over to soy milk after she turned one. She is now about 17 months old. She is drinking about two cups a day.
We use enriched rice milk and both of my twins like it. DS drinks a lot more though, but DD eats more food. The pedi told us we can always give DD a calcium supplement if we want...but if she's eating well and drinking some rice milk, she should be fine.
DD1 drinks enriched rice milk. I make sure she gets protein and fat from the rest of her diet. You can also get brown rice protein powder or pea protein powder to add to the rice milk.

Thanks ladies. We are definitely trying rice milk. I hope DD likes it. Where do you get rice protein powder or pea protein powder? I've only noticed whey being sold at the store.

that's what I want to know too! DS1 could use some protein powder, but he can't have whey and I don't want him to have more soy protein. he needs variety.

I've ordered both off Amazon. I've seen brown rice protein powder at my local health food store. I imagine they might carry it at Whole Foods too. This is the pea protein I recently ordered, it doesn't have artificial sweeteners in it, which a lot of protein powders tend to have:
I don't use the recommended serving amount b/c it's quite a lot and protein powder tastes nasty. I just put in a heaping teaspoon or so and mix it in really well. I figure adding a little bit of protein is better than nothing.

DS1 was on the small side so from 12- 20 months his pedi GI had him on a toddler formula (Vital Jr which in now called something else) to help ensure he got enough calories. We were lucky because our insurance covered it with just a co-pay.

Have your tried rice milk? Our LOs ENT thinks dairy is causing my sons ear infections and mentioned that once he's one rice milk was an option. I know nothing about it or where to get it, but thought I'd mention it as a suggestion.
