1st Trimester

Depressed by morning sickness?

Is anyone else feeling depressed due to morning sickness? I've been feeling awful for about 2 weeks now and I feel like its never gonna end. This morning it finally started to take an emotional toll, I've just lost all motivation to even try and work through it. How do you keep your spirits up? And what do you do to pass the hours when you're stuck on the couch?

Re: Depressed by morning sickness?

  • Have you tried Zofran?  It was a lifesaver for me during my last pregnancy.  It is hard, but keep your chin up...it's all worth it!  And take it easy on yourself...if laying on the couch watching tv is what you have to do, then do it and enjoy it.  That's your body's way of telling you to take it easy.  {{hugs}}

    I don't throw up much, but I'm nauseous all the time--it is depressing.  I just keep counting down the days until second tri; I figure if I can just keep going, it will be over eventually.  It definitely is tough, though.

    Try to think about it as exercising your will--every time you are able to eat when you really don't want to, you've triumphed over the nausea.  Thinking about it this way has made it easier for me--I give myself pep-talks just like I would for working out, and every time I do well, it makes my will a bit stronger for the next time.  I also try not to beat myself up for not eating the healthiest stuff--if ice cream is what will go down and what I can eat right now, then so be it.

    ETA: And if it does get too bad, call your doc and get on some Zofran--you should be able to be functional.

  • It is very isolating and depressing. I sometimes feel completely out of touch with who I am. Sounds so dramatic, but there's nothing but the nausea! I finally had to take time off of work. My Mom (was also extremely sick) said it's better to work to keep your mind on other things as much as possible, but my job was too high stress with long difficult hours. Taking that stress away helped.

    Wish I had something else to offer other than to say I'm right there with ya! The meds have helped a little- especially taking 1/2 unisom tab at night. At least that way I sleep a few hours in a row. I find that being tired makes the nausea MUCH worse.

    Hope you feel better soon.
