NPR: Chicago or Nashville?

DH and I were talking today about taking a weekend trip sans kiddos next year for our 30th birthdays/5th anniversary. We just want somewhere that's a relative quick plane ride away (or closer, we live in CT). Neither one of us has ever been to Chicago or Nashville. I think either would be fun but anyone been and have opinions? Thanks!

Re: NPR: Chicago or Nashville?

  • We went to Nash for our child free weekend before DS, but we went for an event and never left the hotel. We stayed at the Gaylord Opryland and it was kind of awesome, Jack Daniels restaurant is my favorite. We both did wish we'd had a chance to see more of the city, I'd definitely go back. Never been to Chicago.

Thanks for the input, it will be a tough choice. I know if we do Chicago, DH will want to hit up a ball game, which is fine because I like baseball, too. We're both country music fans so I think Nashville would be a lot of fun. It's probably win-win either way. Maybe we need to plan 2 separate trips...hmmm....

  • Both are awesome. Having lived in the Chicagoland area for over half my life, I can safely say you will not be bored. And having been to Nashville, the people watching is worth the entire trip. Unbelievable. You can't go wrong in either city.

  • Nashville...  I've been to Chicago a few times and I found myself more frustrated trying to find places and get around.  With Nashville there is a lot to see/do especially if you time it with there being any concerts you want to see...

Chicago. I am a transplant to Nashville and it is unbelievably boring. There are a few OKAY attractions but I guess it would depend on what you like to do. There is definitely some rich culture but the scene, for the most part is NMS. I am a museum junkie but I can only go to so many plantations before I start becoming bored. As for all the other area attractions, they are gimmicky. Truth be told, the best time to come is during the holidays when you can go to opryland hotel and enjoy the gorgeous holiday decorations.
