sleep apnea?

i honestly think i'm developing sleep apnea. i have an appt on tuesday, and i'm going to ask about it then, but my dr likes to blow me off on stuff like this... has anyone else developed sleep apnea during pregnancy? i am not overweight, but i think everything pushing upwards it causing it. i will startle awake and snort/choke/inhale forcefully. i NEVER did this before. it sucks because i feel like i've been holding my breath when i do wake up like that.

Re: sleep apnea?

  • Ive read that can happen!  Ask your doc anyway, but Im 100% positive that it can be normal.  HTH!  :o)
  • Based on what you are describing it certainly sounds like sleep apnea. I never thought of what I was experiencing as sleep apnea but I have noticed, especially last night, that I will startle myself awake with a loud snore/snort. I never feel short of breath when I wake up though so I don't feel like I was holding my breath before that. For me it might just be being stuffed up or something. I certainly hope you don't have sleep apnea! Regardless hopefully your doctor can help you come up with some solutions. Don't let them blow you off, sleep apnea can be very troublesome.

  • I have sleep apnea and am on cpap therapy. I would find a Dr. that will take you seriously. I am not trying to scare you, but I had an appt. with my cardiologist two weeks ago (He is also a sleep Dr.)  He wanted to make sure that I am using my machine (which I NEVER EVER go a night without) because he said untreated sleep apnea can cause spontaneous abortion. What you are describing is in fact the same symptoms that I told my dr. about. They ordered a sleep study and within a few weeks I had my results and started on my machine. I have never felt so amazing and well rested in my life. I will NOT sleep without my machine. I am also pregnant with twins, and the thought of not using it is quite scary! If you have any questions, please feel free to pm me! Good luck!
