2nd Trimester

exercise

I havent worked out since I was about 15 weeks and I am not gonig on 23 weeks.  I would like to start walking again and wonder if it is a good idea to start back up given I haven't done it in so long?  I dont' want to delve back into the powerwalking I was doing pre-preg but would like to start doing something.  My legs have gotten so big since I stopped going to the gym.

Re: exercise

  • Walking is fine, even if u haven't been it's not to late to start. Just build up don't go crazy and walk 5 miles on day one.

  • I was exercising pretty regularly before pg, and now I have no desire or energy to do so. Im now 25 weeks. Im starting to see the pounds so I have to get back in the groove. For my size I shouldnt gain more than 20 lbs and Im already at 15 lbs. So good luck to you and to me.... =)
  • You're still doing better than me, I honestly haven't worked out a single day since i had DS.....almost 5 years agoEmbarrassed

Start back up slowly. Don't do a crazy 10 mile walk one day as a previous post stated but any amt of walking will do some good. Now i need to start taking my own advice!

  • I didn't exercise too much at the beginning of my pregnancy (since I was still teaching and just too exhausted when I got home), but now I do walk every day or every other day ( only about a 1/2 hour and not power walking) and I swim when the weather's nice which I almost prefer over the walking. Does your gym have a pool? I shouldn't be a problem if you just take it easy at first and bring plenty of water.

I exercised throughout my last pregnancy (until the night before C was born), and it is my goal to do this again.   Check out this article from Time on the benefits of exercise while pregnant.

Walking is a pretty safe bet, even power walking shouldn't be a problem, seeing as your body is already used to it.  You can always start easy and check with your OB for intensity guidelines at your next appointment.   Just make sure you drink lots of water.  Good Luck.

  • I would build up to it not necessarily quit exercise all together.. Just listen to your body. exercise is healthy for you and if you are concerned I would talk to your doctor about appropiate exercies..good luck
