So I call the doctor this morning because I thought I was getting a yeast infection. The nurse told me to come in and have a nurse practitioner do a swab to check and see what was going on. When I get there, she decides to measure me and check the heartbeat with the doppler since I was in there.
First, she told me my uterus was measuring 25 weeks, even though today I am 26 weeks. She told me that it wasn't an exact science so I was ok with that. Then, she pulled out the doppler and the heart sounded really strange. It was beating slow and the rate kept dropping. She seemed very concerned and told me it sounded abnormal to her and she had to go talk to the doctor.
She left the room for what seemed like an eternity and when she came back she said the doctor wanted me to go straight to labor and delivery to be monitored. They hooked me up at L&D and listened for and hour and a half and told me that everything looked ok, even though the heart rate did have a couple of quick dips here and there (one time it even went down to 69 bpm, although they thought maybe the monitor was just losing contact...let's hope that's all it was).
So, I'm really happy the heart sounded normal at L&D but I'm still freaking out about the whole thing and probably won't relax until my next scheduled appointment at 28 weeks. I'm just hoping it was a fluke at the dr.'s office and that maybe the baby was playing with her cord or something. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Re: Scary day at the OB office (a little long)
is it possible the nurse picked up YOUR heartbeat? (my doctor said this is pretty common, so in her practice the nurses don't do the doppler, only the doctor)
glad everything went well when you were in L&D, just remember, if everything wasn't okay, they wouldn't have let you go!
relax and enjoy your weekend!
I don't think so because the heart rate would be slow then speed up to 130 then drop again.
Well at L&D it was most likely the baby just wiggled a little bit and it did lose the heartbeat for a second. I just got off hospital bed rest and my boys cant stand being on the belts they move away from them nonstop. So much so that the nurses have to hold the monitors on them.
At the drs office it is very possible that the doppler was picking up both of your heartbeats it did it to me once. It's very scary stuff. I hope you can calm down and relax. Like said before if they thought something was wrong they would of kept you in L&D.
