Painting / decorating after baby arrives

Anyone else painting & decorating & buying the nursery decorations after baby arrives?  We are team green but what I want for the nursery is very different for boy vs girl.  This is our 2nd and and I'm worried that I won't want to spend the time decorating the nursery after baby comes, yet at the same time I want to decorate it just the way I like (I'm really a perfectionist about things like this).

Anyone else in this boat?  What are your plans for getting it done efficiently?  What about paint fumes in the baby's room?

  • We didn't paint DS's nursery until after he was born (Team Green as well), and it was fine. DH did all the painting, and DS was sleeping in our room anyway, so it was NBD.

  • We painted the nursery a gender neutral color, so at least that would be done.  We hung up picture frames filled with cheap scrapbooking paper and shelves.  After our kids arrived, we accessorized to make it more girly -- changed out the pictures frames, added girly things to the shelves, bought a girly hamper, etc.

I'm planning to do the same thing with #3.

  • We actually already have our nursery done, but it looks like there's a good possibility we'll be moving in October/November, so she won't even really be in her nursery here, and I'm already thinking of what I might want to change about it in the new house. My husband really hates my inability to stick to one decor for very long..
