My mom had a great relationship with her MIL, my grandma. Apparently they talked about a lot, including my grandma's desire to have more children (my Dad is an only child). I guess they tried really hard but never could get pregnant again. She then told me, which I guess I should have already known, that my grandma was diagnosed with type II diabetes. She was not overweight at all either. Sounds like PCOS that went ignored or something.
Hearing this makes this whole PCOS thing start to finally make sense. I knew it could be hereditary but didn't have this info about my family! Why did she wait so long to tell me? Slightly frustrating but glad to at least know.
So I'm curious, for those ladies with PCOS, do you think yours is hereditary and who can you link it to?
Re: Thanks for the info, Mom....
I don't know of anyone in my family who has/had it.

Hi there~
My mom tried for 7 years then adopted my sister, two years later she had me, then my younger sister. Now that I have enlightened her on my condition, she feels strongly that perhaps this was her issue. In the late 60's early 70's, they just did not seem to target the problem and call it PCOS. My younger sister and I have both had VERY irregular cycles, just like my mom, but thought nothing of it. My sister has had 3 pregnancy's, I have had none. I was just diagnosed last year.
The only thing I was advised to do with lean PCOS was to tweak my already healthy diet. After cutting out the whites, and stopped with the every day dose of pirate's booty, my digestive troubles have vanished. I had no symptoms- just no regular FLO and later learned no ovulation (and cysts at the time of diagnosis). But had tummy troubles all my life- until now. The crazy thing about PCOS is that every woman's experience seems to be different. All the best to you.

A lot of the new research is showing that it is most likely autosomal dominant. It can be passed from father to daughter. Mine seems to be genetic. I believe it is on my dad's side of the family. One of his sisters only had one child, and struggled for years. Also several cousins have no children and are IF. All three of my sisters have PCOS. Without a doubt, genetic for sure in my case.

Ha! I know, at least I can pinpoint whose fault it is!! Just kidding! But seriously, it was so helpful to find out that there is a history of it in the family. It sorta makes it easier to digest, rather than me being some freak in the family.
Dx: Feb '13 - HSG shows clear tubes but minor diverticulitis; Borderline DOR; Low DHEA and low testosterone.
