My midwife said to eat a normal healthy breakfast, but nothing too sugary like a doughnut. Having a rush of sugar before the 1-hour test can throw off your results and push you to the 3-hour test.
I've read on here that other people's MWs/OBs have told them to fast. Maybe call your dr's office to check to see what they recommend.
you should ask your doc. My glucose test is in two weeks. I was told to fast (no food OR drink, even water!) for 8 hours before the test and come in at 8 a.m. to drink the sugar drink and take my first blood draw. then wait two hours and they'll do the 2nd blood draw. If I eat or drink I screw the test...
the point is to understand how your body deals with glucose/insulin after a night of fasting. if you eat first, you kind of throw off the whole test. Again, call your doctor and ask. THey should've given you paperwork to review prior to the test.
that said, it won't matter what you eat bc you ate it for dinner and went to sleep. I'll likely wind up fasting for 12 hours bc of the time that I go to bed.
My doctor told me not to eat anything with carbs or sugar, and they made my appt in early morning so I don't have to wait so long. I drank water before I went & once I drank the fruit punch drink then that's when they told me for an hr don't drink water. Did all of that & by the time I got home it was 10:30 and my appt was at 8:30. After it all they called me today & said I had passed it. I hope all goes well for you on your test.
