2nd Trimester

Heartbeat

This may sound a little bit crazy but I wanted to know if anyone has ever done this. I am 14w pregnant (will be 15w tomorrow) and I can't wait to hear the baby's heartbeat again. Has anyone ever called up their doctor just to go in quick to hear it? Even if you weren't due for a doctors appointment for a little while?

  • I think as long as you aren't making stuff up.  I think you are fine.  I wish I could go in once a week just to hear them.

  • There was one day when I was about 11 or 12 weeks that I had some spotting so I called my doctor and she said that if I wanted to, for "peace of mind," I could come in for a quick check so she could check the heartbeat and make sure everything was okay.  When you have 4 weeks between appointments, and before you can feel the baby moving, every little piece of reassurance feels great so I say go for it!  Or... if you're really anxious about everything like some women are, you could get a Home Doppler machine from Amazon... I think they run about $60ish and you could have that peace of mind at home for yourself.
  • Have you thought about getting a doppler?  My boss gave me hers to borrow and I was able to find it immediately.  I think you can get them for around $50-$60.
  • I had 2 previous missed miscarriages around 10 weeks.  So, I had an appt this time at 9 and then was waiting until 13 weeks. I just couldn't make it.  I went in around 11.5 weeks and we listened via doppler just after her lunch break and before she had a patient in.  It was so incredibly nice of them.

  • I'm pretty sure my Dr's office wouldn't be up for this unless you have complications or spotting... If you want to hear it so badly, just purchase a doppler. They are inexpensive and that way you can listen to it at home. I ordered mine earlier during my pregnancy and was able to hear the heartbeat at 9 weeks and 3 days.

inexpensive is relative.  I haven't decided if 60 dollars is worth it yet.  I want one but I am trying to determine if its cost effective.

I paid around $80 for mine since the shipping to Canada is a bit expensive but the way I look at it, I can resell it for close to the same amount so totally worth it IMO. There's always adds of people looking for one on my local kijiji (same as craigslist).

  • I would really recommend a doppler. Mine was only $56 I think and it gives me a huge piece of mind being able to use it whenever.

  • I have heard my babies heartbeat everyday since I was 10 weeks.

I had a m/c 2 years ago and with this pregnancy I was super nervous, so with a little research I found this at home fetal doppler (ill post the website at the end). I was able to find the heartbeat at 10 weeks and everyday since then. Its perfect for the nervous moms-to-be like me and its not even that expensive.

*Just remember if your placenta is in a weird position or your a bigger woman you might not hear it as early as I did.

    Here is the website! enjoy!
