2nd Trimester

Really worried about the U/S tomorrow

My doctor stated to me that they found a small spot on the babys heart and that they have to do further testing to find out what it is. I thought it was weird because all of my lab work came back for any genetic disorders and hope it is nothing serious. I was just wondering are there any mothers that have had to go through the same thing. If so please help me out here.

  • There was a post on here last month about someone who had the same situation... then at a later U/S (I'm not sure how long after) - the spot had disappeared!

We have been dealing with the same thing since my U/S May 21. They saw a "white spot" on his heart which I found out later is called a Echogenic intracardiac focus (EIF) & is a soft marker for Down's Syndrome.

I went to a maternal fetal specialist for an additional U/S, but he had a "bad angle," so it didnt actually see anything, so I have to go back again 7/2. (P.S. Maternal Fetal Specialists are usually the "nerds" of OB world, so don't expect them to be warm and fuzzy...he freaked me out even more & he didnt even SEE anything.)

I've posted before & received a lot of responses & I have done a lot of research & apparently this is pretty common in normal pregnancies (6%+). The connection between EIFs and Down's is not THAT strong & has medically been loosing some traction. It's more that a lot of babies with Down's have EIFs, not a lot of babies with EIFs have Down's if that makes sense. My chance for Down's based on the quad screen was 1 in 10,000 so I am praying everything is okay & trying not to worry about it for the rest of my pregnancy.

    Good luck!!!
