A boy at DS daycare was diagnosed with it so I have been super extra anal about keeping DS clean, and worried he may catch it since he is new to daycare period.
Come to find out, I think somehow my son gave it to me! Sores/flat blisters on my hands and feet. Nothing in my mouth yet, thank God. Started off last weekend with a headache for 2 days, super sore throat, fever, and malaise. And now I have diarrahea. I called my Ob/Gyn yesterday and they want me to go to my PCP to have blood work done to check my titers and IgG and then we will go from there regarding care for unborn baby.
I feel as if I have a very mild case, but plan to call my PCP today. Has anyone else experienced this while pregnant? I know its not uncommon for adults to also get it, but usually not seen. I figure my lovely, weaker, pregnant immune system just let it on in!
Re: Grreeeaaaatt.....I think I have hand, foot, and mouth disease.
I have it right now. And it's horrible! I'm sorry if you end up getting it bad. The blisters on the bottom of my feet are so bad, I can hardly walk. It hurts too much. And my hands hurt so much I can't do 90% of normal things with them. I got them on my face and throat too. I couldn't eat solid foods for about two days, It hurt too much,
This probably freaked you out more than anything. So I really am sorry... This is honestly just how my experience has been. I know it doesn't get this bad for everyone, so hopefully if you do have it, it's not as severe!
My OB told me I can't really do anything, it just has to play out. I took a Tylenol a little to help keep the fever down and that's about it. Today is the first day I actually am starting to feel a bit better. It seemed to be getting worse every day up until now.
I have it right now too, and my husband had it last week as did my son. I think the strain going around right now is easier caught by adults. I read a whole article about how adults usually don't get it, but with this strain, even adults with healthy immune systems are getting it.
My doctor said there is no risk to the pregnancy. Why is your doctor having you get all these tests done? Is there harm to the fetus?
My daughter is getting over this right now, I don't think I have it but the incubation period can be up to 6 days so I will know for sure next week.
I spoke with my OB and she said the only concern is high fever and dehydration if I end up getting it.
Anyway, I hope you feel better soon!
DD gave it to me about a month ago and it was not fun. I had the sores on my feet and the tips of my fingers. My feet were soooo sore, it killed to walk. My fingers weren't so bad, but I'm a physical therapist and do alot of hands on work which made it pretty difficult and being on my feet all day at work was quite the challenge. I didn't have any sores in my mouth, but my throat was definitely sore for a few days. My OB was not concerned and said I just had to wait it out. She said the only concern with hand foot and mouth and pregnancy was with severe cases that were close to delivery.
"Just keep swimming, just keep swimming..."
Wowsers, catching it as an adult doesnt seem so rare after all these posts! I am not really having any tests done. I called my Ob/Gyn first just to make them aware and if I needed to do anything special since it can pass to the fetus. She wasnt overly concerned at all, but did want to check my titers. However, I went to my PCP yesterday and he said it was hard to tell if it was HFM disease (if so, it is a mild case) or just another random virus. He swabbed my throat and thats it!
Do you happen to know where you saw that article about the current strain?
The first few days for me were hell, with the fever and sore throat. But my feet dont hurt anymore but still have some diarrhea. Hoping it will pass soon!
From my understanding, it's only really a big deal if you are in 1st tri (can cause m/c) or in 3rd tri and about to deliver.
