i got one at 8 wks, then 20 wks. do they give you one more before delivery at least? just wondering because i thought i would get more than two u/s during my pregnancy! i'm not high risk or anything, but i still figured i would get at least one more before the baby was born.
Re: no more ultrasounds?
From my understanding the normal is 3-4 u/s. It is usually 1 per trimester, sometimes they add a second in the third trimester to double check how baby is progressing.
For myself, I have had 3 already. I am not considered a high risk pregnancy but I had a scare at week 25 that they thought my water broke so I had an extra scan.
Nope totally normal. Some offices do not even give an early one and their patients only get the a/s at 20 weeks.
My office does a dating u/s at the first appointment, offers the NT scan at 12w & the 20w. So 3 max, 2 if you don't choose the NT.
It really depends on a)Your insurance, b)Your doc's office, c)your risk/pregnancy
A lot of people seem to only get 1, around 20 weeks and that's it.
and obviously, some people have More or a Lot more than that!
I had about 6 or so with DS1. Including 1 near the end (38 weeks or so) so they could measure his size. They did call it a "growth" Ultrasound.
But this time I have only had 2 so far.
I didn't get a doctor-required u/s after 20 wks until my due date and that was only part of the non-stress test.
You can look around for an elective place if you want another.
This exactly. I had one at 10w and 20w with DS1 and with this LO(DS2) I would have only gotten the two but I got an elective u/s for gender determination as well.
We are on the same page as everyone here...
My wife got one at 8 weeks, 16 weeks and 20 weeks. The last two were from a prenatal specialists. Our visits now are short and basic (weight, blood pressure and we get to hear the babies heartbeat). But we are loading up on classes: infant safety, birthing, CPR, etc....so get excited, the fun never ends!
I do hope we get one towards the end, I would feel better knowing that our son is positioned and ready to go.
Hmm. How do they know the baby is breech without US?

Most people only get ONE ultrasound their entire pregnancy so be grateful you've had two.
That being said, you may have one if it's medically necessary (i.e. your measuring too big or too small (+/- 3 weeks), etc.)
I have ultrasounds every 4 weeks due to pre-e and large babies with my 2 previous pregnancies so I'll have quite a bit more before I deliver.

The doctor can tell if the baby is head down without an ultrasound (feeling your belly, internal exams, etc.)

No, they don't. Most OBs can tell just by feeling on your uterus which direction the baby is.
My OB is in the 'no more u/s unless there's a problem' group. I am a little bummed that we didn't get 3D pictures (our a/s place didn't do that), but not sure I am willing to spend $150 to $200 to get another, elective ultrasound.
That said, I was talking to my SIL the other day, and her doc did a late 3rd tri u/s to measure baby. She said my nephew's head measured as too big for her to deliver vaginally, so she had him via c-section. (He was 9.5 lbs at birth, and a week and a half early!) I had never heard of this before. I don't know if she had GD or any other issues that could make baby larger than normal, but there have been a number of big babies in my family, so I am going to mention it to my OB at my next appointment. Has anyone else heard of this happening? I didn't think they could tell baby's size to such specifics based on the ultrasound (or is that only true for weight estimates being off?)

i've been getting ultrasounds and pictures of the ultrasounds every month at every visit. how odd!
I'm sure they will do more ultrasounds!
The OB was able to tell that my daughter was in the right position by feeling her. They're pros, they know what they're doing.
I did have a growth U/S at about 34-34 weeks.
Where I go, we only get one U/S. I had one at 8 weeks, however, because of bleeding. And I will get one at 20 weeks but that's it!
I had a confirmation U/S at 13 weeks. That one was for dating more accurately. I had one last Friday, and I was 21 weeks along. I am having another one in 4 weeks because there was an issue with some measuring of his legs. If there hadn't been an issue, I wouldn't be having another one.
Some places will do a 3D/4D U/S, but insurance doesn't cover that, and it's just for fun I think.
My OB does a growth U/s at 34 weeks, but I think it will depend on your doctor and your insurance.

It depends on the Dr. With DS#1 I had 4 because first one was too early, that OB does 3 for a normal pregnancy
My current MW does 1. Because I am extra paranoid I got 2 and we are done
